Our History

The community of Blue Hill was founded in 1878 and by 1881, the Blue Hill United Methodist Church with a membership of 20 people was formally organized. Across the decades, the membership grew and the Christian church prospered with a focus on serving the local community and missions around the world.

In 1977, a new church was built at the present location with a large sanctuary, fellowship hall and a wing for Christian education.  Over the past 20 years, membership declined and the remaining members began devising a plan for the future of the church and the church building.  It was their prayer and hope that the building would not just sit empty but would serve a purpose that would continue with the church’s mission of serving others.

In April of 2023, an exploratory committee for the formation of a children’s early learning center approached members of the church to determine interest in leasing space for the center.  Through multiple meetings and conversations, the members of the Blue Hill UMC agreed that the Blue Hill Early Learning Center would be a welcomed addition to the church building where they would occupy the previous Christian education wing and would share space in the kitchen and Fellowship Hall with the church.  Current plans include renovating the entire church to accommodate the new center with future plans when the church closes for the BHELC to assume ownership of the church building and property.
